Spray Tan FAQ’s

Spray Tan FAQ’s

1. What is DHA?

DHA is DiHydroxy Acetone, which reacts with the skin’s amino acids to produce a golden tan that can last up to a week. This is the healthy way to get a tan without the damaging rays of the sun or tanning beds.

2. What results can I expect for my skin type?

You can’t force a tan on your skin with the sun so you should not try to force a darker tan than your skin will allow. There is no skin damage associated with “over exposure” with Virtual-Tan but you can turn orange. The darker you can tan naturally, the darker you will tan with Virtual-Tan.

3. How long will the tan last?

7-10 days. This will depend on your skin type. The color is on the very outermost layer of skin, the layer that is constantly shedding. So as you shed your skin, you will also shed your tan.

4. How do I maintain my Air Brush Tan?

Keep you skin moisturized, and avoid long, hot showers or baths. Do not rub the skin, nor wear tight clothing that chafes at the skin.

5. How soon can I get wet after my session?

Wait at least 8 hours to shower. For best results, don’t shower for 12 hours. Apply Nu-Wave Moisture + moisturizer lotion after a shower.

6. What are the difficulties associated with “self tanning” sun sprays?

Don’t sit on leather furniture, or car seats, etc., immediately after being sprayed. If your feet sweat, don’t wear shoes or socks after your tanning session. If you go too dark, some areas of your skin will exfoliate faster than other areas, and you can appear “spotty”. Sun damaged “sun spots” on your skin will not tan.

7. Does it smell?

With some body chemistry after 30 minutes or so there is can be a slight “starchy” odor. This dissipates quickly.

8. Does Spray-Tan contain sunscreen?

No, Spray-Tan does not contain a FDA approved sunscreen.

9. Will the bronzer stain my clothing?

Yes, it can stain your clothing. Bronzer washes out of cotton, but will stain light colors, bras, undies, etc. Make sure you wear the same garment for best results.

10. What about age spots, freckles, moles, fingernails and toenails?

You must access the body for any of these problem areas. They will turn darker brown than the rest of the body. The fingernails and toenails must be covered with polish or acrylic. You must “white out” all problem areas. You may use a barrier such as petroleum jelly to cover these areas or latex (if not allergic) to all areas you wish to maintain or lessen with tanning.

11. What about the Problem areas – feet, hands, knees and elbows…

These areas cause tanning problems because of the difference in the rate of absorption. These areas are generally dry and therefore soak up more product. This is a problem that Virtual-Tan has nearly eliminated. Because of a superior-tanning product coupled with the proprietary airbrush application, the effects of this problem can be greatly reduced, and possibly eliminated. It is imperative that the fingernails and toenails be covered up. Dry the feet completely before putting on shoes. Make sure that your feet don’t sweat, as can happen when you wear shoes, but no socks. If your feet sweat while “curing”, the chemical reaction between the sweat and the DHA will turn your feet either bright orange or bright yellow.

12. What do I do before I tan?

Exfoliate very well before you tan. Shave 12 hours before your session. DO NOT use products with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) in them. These will erase your tan!

13. What about tan lines?

Yes, you will have tan lines, depending on the garment you wear. Men should wear briefs as a minimum. results.

14. Will I have facial breakouts?

Rarely! To tan with DHA, you need to have a “carrier” solution to put it in. Alcohol is light and dries very quickly, but can be very drying to the skin. Apply a lot of moisturizer quite often. Apply lotion every day, morning and night.

15.What about my hair and eyebrows?

Our DHA does not have an effect on darker hair. You can use a shower cap to protect your hair. Always use one on very blonde hair. Remove shower cap before drying.

16. What about areas that exfoliate faster than others?

Due to extra scrubbing and beauty products you can match-up 2-3 days later with a “hands and face spray tan session.”

17. What are the small white spots?

That is the result of splashing water on freshly applied tan. Keep hands out of, and away from water.

18. How long does tanning take?

Tanning takes about 5 minutes or so, and you will want to take another 10 minutes to dry. A hair dryer and fan will help speed the drying process. Because the moisture level in each person varies, drying time will also vary. The longer the period of uninterrupted drying time, the better you tan will turn out.
